Assessment of international podiatric surgery qualifications

We will assess your podiatric surgery qualification(s) against the assessment criteria below to advise you if you are qualified for specialist registration.

Explanation of key terms as used in the assessment criteria:

  • Diploma supplement: an official document from your education provider that explains your qualification.
  • Education provider: an institution, such as a college, school or university, that provides education services.
  • Quality assurance or accreditation: the process of checking a qualification to make sure it meets the required quality standard.
  • Statutory registration or licensing body: an organisation that is authorised to provide registration or licenses to practice as a podiatric surgeon
  • Transcript: an official document from your education provider that states the subjects you completed and your results.

Assessment criteria

Criterion What we assess Supporting documentation
1. The academic level of your qualification in podiatric surgery is comparable to, at a minimum, an Australian Masters Degree (Extended) at level 9 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Provide:
  • a clear colour scan of certified copies of original documents such as your transcript and/or diploma supplement, award certificate, or equivalent official documents issued by your education provider.
If either the transcript/diploma supplement or the award certificate is unavailable, you must provide:
  • a letter from your education provider’s registrar confirming the qualification awarding date, program duration, subjects completed, and credits earned. 
If you hold multiple profession-relevant qualifications, you must submit documentation for all relevant qualifications
2. Your qualification is in podiatric surgery and covers the various aspects of podiatric surgery practice in Australia, including:
  • diagnosis and treatment of disease, injuries and defects of the human foot and related structures
  • use of surgical and non-surgical processes to care for bone, joint and soft tissue pathology
  • practice within multi-disciplinary healthcare teams involving general practitioners, specialists and other health professionals, and
  • undertaking referrals to support improved quality, safety and healthcare standards and practice
Provide (if available):
  • practical placement or internship records from your qualification
  • course curriculum including descriptions of learning outcomes and assessment tasks
  • verifiable course syllabus or handbook.
  • 3. At the time you were awarded your qualification (or completed the program of study leading to your qualification) in podiatric surgery it was:
    • subject to quality assurance by a body external to the education institution, and
    • recognised or accredited by the external body, and
    • the quality assurance was based on the following:
      • published accreditation standards for podiatric surgery education
      • published processes for reviewing programs/providers against the accreditation standards
      • an assessment conducted by an individual or team with appropriate expertise in education and in podiatric surgery
      • regular review of the program of study such as annual reporting or cyclic re-accreditation
    Nil
    4. Your qualification was recognised by a statutory registration/licensing body for practice as a specialist podiatric surgeon in the country where you completed the program of study leading to qualification. If you have ever been registered, provide:
    • a clear colour scan of a certified copy of your valid registration/license certificate
    and/or
    • any pre-registration assessment or examination results.
    If you are not currently registered, provide:
    • supporting information from the registering authority confirming that your qualification was eligible for registration at the time of study.
    5. As part of your studies in podiatric surgery you successfully completed learning outcomes and assessment tasks through a broad range of clinical experience and training in podiatric surgery that maps to the Professional capabilities for podiatric surgeons and the essential content for approved qualifications in podiatric surgery in Australia. Provide the supporting documents listed for 2. No extra supporting documentation is needed.
    6. Your qualification in podiatric surgery was awarded by a specialist college or an entity with statutory registration or authorisation to issue qualifications and/or was authorised to deliver higher education when your qualification was awarded Provide the supporting documents listed for 1. No extra supporting documentation is needed.
